Steve's 911 SC 3.4 - A moment of Suspense...or suspension, and a cage.

Concurrent to all this we purchased back my old car, the Golden Goose from Gene, which was having transmission and rust troubles. The car was dismantled and sold for parts over the Internet. Turns out there was more interest than we had parts! That being the case I ended up selling most of the suspension off my car, including the front struts, rear spring plates. and torsion bars. That cash, along with some very nice sales at Ski Roundtop enabled me to upgrade the suspension to monoball and dual-coil-spring with RSR struts and shocks.

This necessitated some chassis stiffening. Serious chassis stiffening. This, combined with the carbon fiber doors meant it was time for a cage.

After pouring through Panorama and Excellence, looking at the RSR3.8 and 3.8 Evolution cars, I designed a cage for the car as close to factory specs as possible, tied into the shock towers all around. Off the car went to Johnston Enterprises with windows and interior removed. Only 5 weeks later it was installed, but still rusting after being returned, stripped and repainted THREE TIMES! Finally I decided the hell with it and stripped the cage myself. It got painted by hand with rust preventative paint and, so far, it seems to be happy.

I also took out all interior soundproofing and rear panels and after some fairly tedious scraping painted the engine compartment and rear-interior glossy battleship gray. I even went to the trouble of cleaning the rear suspension with a toothbrush and Foamy Gunk Engine Brite! Gak, what a mess!
