Gene had purchased the car in 1988 from John Wood Porsche in Trenton, and over the course of the following years dumped about $25,000 into upgrades including transmission, suspension and brakes, and the 3.4 ltr long block. When I got the car it looked good but had been cosmetically neglected. It also had the original US '83 CIS systems and a very stopped up factory single exhaust.
Curb weight, without spare tire or air conditioning compressor, was about 2665 lb. Within about a month I had thrown on a set of 46mm Webbers, headers and a custom exhaust. As a result the 3.4 ltr. had an added 50 HP or so.
Over the course of the following year the car lost nearly 200 lb. of air conditioning hoses, ducting and fans, exhaust, CIS, rear seat backs and insulation and tipped the scales at 2485 with a half tank of gas. Since having it I have replaced the above induction and exhaust, upgraded the wheels and tires, replaced the rear rotors, rebuilt the trans, and upgraded the half shafts. At that point I had approximately $16,000 in a car which is worth somewhere between $18,000 and $25,000, depending on who you ask.
In the Summer of 1994 I upgraded to a Quaife to go along with the 7:31 Ring and Pinion Gene put in. If I had the $$$ I'd get rid of the 7:31 and put in an 8:31 with modified 3,4,5 gears. As it is the gears are too spread out with euro Carrera (+1 , +2 teeth) fourth and fifth gears.
